Supply and demand. That was the basis on which we had found our hotel for the night. We were in desperately need of any place to sleep and Florida was at the moment infested. I have a hard enough time seeing the spring break crowd from the safe haven of my home town, when I'll flip on MTV at a friend's house and see the seething, topless, beer-bonging masses cheering incessantly about god-knows-what. But last night, as we were driving around and being turned down by every rightfully-exhausted hotel manager, I was beginning to despise it all the more. Actually, I was only despising it vicariously through my comrades ... I fell asleep in the back and woke up when they had found Florida's only vacant room. A stable at best and at 2:35 am Logan gave birth to the second coming of Christ.

For breakfast we opted for the infamous Waffle House, which our good pal Gabe Meline (Mr. T Experience and Last Record Store guru) has a tattoo of on his arm. I miss that guy. Josh had been telling me that every Waffle House comes with a jukebox loaded to the gills with songs written in homage to the glory that is the WH. So upon our arrival we promptly plugged about two or three dollars in quarters into the music machine and listened to 45 minutes worth of songs like "Hash Browns (I Love You)", "There's 844,369 ways to eat a Waffle House Hamburger", "Waffle House Romp" and "Sauce Man" ... much to the dismay of the staff. What was amazing was that many of the clientele actually knew most of the lyrics to the songs ... I felt like I was in Trucker Disneyland and all the bears were singing to me. It was bizarre.

Our next stop was Orange World next door, where we looked at a lot of crazy "ass" postcards with slogans like "Enjoying the view in Florida", "Buns are best baked in the hot Florida sun" and the like. I bought a couple gun control stickers to cut up for my own uses as decorations for my Rhodes. Josh and Logan ogled at the dried gator heads.

Since we were already in town, we got the club pretty early. Our dashboard was giving up a constant confessional with a strange piercing language which we couldn’t understand, but was frankly pretty unbearable. Imagine having your head propped up against an old Tandy printer working at double speed to print out 100 copies of War and Peace. Logan decided to take the dashboard apart to solve said problem while I camped out with my laptop and worked on my electronic music for a couple hours. He succeeded in subduing the noise, but disabled the speedometer in the process. Oh well, we can plead ignorance when we get pulled over now.

After auto shop, the Super Fans showed up. We’d never really experienced having fans that are as into us as we are to say, Björk or The Cure or Squarepusher or Randy Newman. If we did, they’ve stayed well-hidden in the woodwork. But as it turns out, we do have such fans and they live in Florida. They were very nice and we ended up going to get dinner with them. It was a good time.

Will’s Pub is a good place to have a show. We always enjoy playing all ages clubs, especially the kind that serve alcohol as well. The first band, Dodger, had brought a good number of people and they played a great set. The singer had a cool voice and their songs were well-written and well-delivered. Their set was very well-received by the crowd. Our set was one of our favorites that we’ve played thus far and everything went super-smoothly. The sound was good, the audience was great and the vibe was just right. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The headliners, called Sound the Alarm were great as well. Very indie sounding, with hints of The Anniversary in places and good use of synthesizer. They had great stage presence and were very tight. I apologize for the brevity of my music reviews, but I always feel like I’m performing sacrilege by writing about music at all. Something just seems inherently wrong about it. It’s the most difficult thing in the world to try to sum up a band after only hearing them once. I‘ll leave it to the journalists. All things considered, the show was a great success. Keith (our #1 Super Fan) offered us his home for the night, which we graciously accepted. There’s nothing like a good night of rest.
